President's Column: September 2008

Dear Alliance Members,

What a wonderful beginning for the Alliance so far this fall. A coffee to meet potential members was held at the home of Cindy Wheeler. Over 25 members and potential members gathered to visit and catch up on all the summer news. It was wonderful to see everyone. We were successful in having a potential member join. Her name is Priya Nair, and she came at the personal invitation of Thu Dotson and JoAnne Sorlie. Also, a thank you to all who brought wonderful goodies to go with our coffee. A couple of recipes of scrumptious breakfast goodies are featured in the newsletter. Great job to all and a big thank you to Cindy for hosting this event for the Alliance!

At our Fall Luncheon, members were absolutely "wowed" by the discussions of Lisa Hildorf and Deb Atkinson. Lisa is a commercial designer, while Deb is an interior designer. We learned the differences between the two areas of expertise and had the opportunity to ask lots of questions. We have such talented members! A big thank you to Deb and Lisa for a wonderful presentation. I think we need a repeat performance from these two!!!

Also at the luncheon, we were able to welcome Suzanne Saltman, the spouse of Dr. Barry Saltman. As you know, Dr. Saltman started the Free Medical Clinic which was started specifically to serve the uninsured population in our community. We are so excited to welcome Suzanne to the Alliance.

We also had the opportunity to welcome Carol Isaacs again. Carol is a past member and reconnected as a result of a phone call from Dee Wacker. Thank you Dee! It was great to see Carol with us again.

We also had three (3) of our Alliance members businesses represented: Rita Wilhelm, Owner of CLUTTERGONE, LLC, a customized approach to organizing your personal and professional life, Cindy Wheeler, owner of Simply Unique, designer of distinctive jewelry, and Dee Loge-Wacker, owner of First Impressions (we all love the Angel Pins and Dee is now designing baskets to be placed on patient walkers. Watch for their advertising in our newsletter. It is wonderful to support the businesses of our members!

The Ingham County Medical Society Alliance hosted a reception at my house for Lakshmi Tummala, President of the Michigan State Medical Society Alliance and their guest from the AMA-Alliance, Barb Hanas, from Iowa. We had members from Midland, Genesee and Wayne Counties represented and had a lovely visit. Later, we went to the Gilbert & Blake restaurant for dinner. I would like to extend big thank you to the Ingham Alliance Leadership Council for the fabulous hors d'oeuvres which members made and brought to the reception. It was wonderful!

Finally, I would like to recognize the Ingham County Medical Society Leadership Council for the wonderful job they are doing so far this year. While it is a non-traditional approach to running the Alliance, it is working and we are meeting the Mission of the Alliance. Throughout the year, I will be featuring one or two of our members who help make this organization what it is today. Be sure to take a look at the pictures featured; in the pictures, you will see many of our Leadership Council members. A great job and a BIG THANK YOU to you all. I couldn't do this job without you!
