Summer/Fall 2011
Hole-in-One for Lisa! - President's Column
Go figure.
In our last Ingham County Medical Society Alliance newsletter, I mentioned that
I planned to focus on improving my golf game over the summer. I made the time to
focus, practice and acquire some nice golf clothing... and the next thing I knew...
boom...one shot on a par three and that's all it took! The witnesses were Pam
and Ed Harden (who happen to be two of mid-Michigan's best golfers) and my husband
Mark Castellani (who is probably not one of mid-Michigan's best golfers, but is one
of my best golf partners!) We had a great round of golf and I hope this was only
the first of several "ones" that will show up on my scorecard. "Fore" !!!

President's Column: Summer 2009
Hunting Season is Here!!
Never before have the political decisions in our State Capitol impacted physicians and their families in a
greater capacity!
Balancing our state budget is critical but it shall not be balanced on the back of Michigan physicians.
We must work together to announce our displeasure with the idea to tax physicians and their patients. We thank
those of you who were able to join us for the White Coat March on October 20th and know that many more were with
us in thought.
We can thank the expert organizational skills of the Michigan State Medical Society staff for orchestrating this
emergency
tactic. We were able to attract the attention of our legislators and explain our opposition.
Stay tuned! It has never been more important to be part of our organization.

Summer flies by too fast...
The broom pictured provided me with transportation to the mid
night show of "The Half Blood Prince" - it was spectacular!
Golf matches and swim meets kept the rest of my time accounted
for and absorbed. Michigan summers are special. I'm
sure you did all your best to enjoy our gorgeous sunsets, eat one
extra "somemore" and read just one more hour out on the dock.

National Meeting Chicago
By Lisa Hildorf, President
I love Chicago. I lived there for almost three years. I jump at a chance to visit the
city and
smile from the time I arrive until the time I depart. This June I had a chance to
smile for many reasons while attending the AMAA Annual Meeting.
Vibrant, dedicated and enthusiastic members helped me learn a great deal in a small
amount of time about our organization. (Who knew that Dee Logé-Wacker had such a wonderful
singing voice?) We are a group that works tirelessly to promote the medical profession. The
medical profession is experiencing a dynamic, transitional time in history. The President of the
United States does not attend the national meetings of every professional organization now does
he? Yet he was front and center at the AMA meeting in Chicago. The President's address to the
AMA was fed into the AMAA meeting live, so we could hear his important focus first hand. We are
about to see major changes in the medical "world" and our voices will be heard. Please help us be
sure your voice is being heard by becoming a member that is active!!!
One focus in the AMAA meetings included the discussion of the language used to define
our Alliance membership. Tell me what the term "domestic partner" defines to you. Do you see
this term as a representative term of a committed couple? Do you see this term as appropriate
when defining those who may be members of our Alliance? The AMAA spent a total of seven
hours discussing this term and if it should be included in our membership definition. The language
was proposed to be adopted, but failed to receive enough votes.
I propose our ICMSA poll our membership to vote on the adoption of this language. We
can then go on record with Michigan State Medical Society Alliance, who can poll other county Alliance
membership and then advise our national officers of our decision. Please let me know
what your thoughts are about this idea. I would like to move forward on this by January of 2010.
